Park walkRoihuvuori – Little Japan

The Roihuvuori district in East Helsinki is home to two Japanese inspired parks, Cherry Park and the a Japan inspired garden, each of which has its own interesting story. The Japan inspired garden is a popular attraction among gardening enthusiasts. Here you will also find a fine ash that represents the world tree in ancient mythology.

The land in Roihuvuori once belonged to Herttoniemi Manor. Herttoniemi and Roihuvuori (then known as “East Herttoniemi”) became part of Helsinki in 1946. There is a strong sense of community within Roihuvuori, or “Roihis” as it is familiarly known. In 2010 it was named “District of the Year” by the Finnish Local Heritage Federation.
