Park walkParks along Merisatamanranta and Eiranranta shore
From the early 20th century, the shoreline area was used as a timber and fishing harbor. The area was crossed by a harbor railway and housed small industrial facilities. Before the construction of the Eiranranta parks, the area was wasteland and had been used for years for, among other things, informal parking. In the 1960s, a sewage treatment plant – later demolished to make way for the new residential block – and a depot for the Helsinki City Construction Department were established in Eiranranta.

The strip of parks along Merisatama and Eiranranta underwent a major transformation, and new parks were created between 2007 and 2011, when more than 10 million euros were invested in this beloved Helsinki waterfront. The entire project was designed by Ramboll Finland Oy. During the planning process, residents’ opinions were heard and incorporated into the plans. The construction of the parks was carried out by Stara and VRJ Etelä-Suomi. The total area covers approximately 11.5 hectares. In 2011, the area was awarded the Environmental Structure of the Year prize.
