Close to Sorsapuisto Park is the largest urn cemetery in Finland. The cemetery was opened in 1966 on land that had been used for grazing horses. It has 11,000 graves in a wide range of different styles.
The urn cemetery is also one of the most diverse, beautiful and well maintained parks in Helsinki. There are cherry trees, windrows, perennials, rhododendrons and numerous shrubs, as well as a pretty pond with fish and frogs. The park is also popular among birdwatchers, and one may also see rabbits, hares and foxes there.
The urn cemetery is part of the new Maunula Nature Trail, the theme of which is the circle of life.
