Park Promenade In the footsteps of Aurora – The parks around Töölönlahti

In fact, this green area is popular all year round. It comprises four parks, Winter Garden greenhouse, an esplanade and a square. The southern quarter is taken up by Hakasalmi Park, the garden of Hakasalmi Villa that once belonged to renowned philanthropist Aurora Karamzin and is now part of Helsinki City Museum. In the year 2016 a former railway yard transformed to a park full of action, called Töölönlahti park. Next to it was built a square called Kansalaistori, meaning Citizen’s Square. It is in front of the central library Ode.

The Winter Garden is a historical greenhouse with Mediterranean plants and it is open to public free of charge. The area in front of the Winter Garden is a public park called Rose Garden. It is fenced and closes for the night. Behind the Winter Garden is the City Garden. The annual summer flowers for the city parks are cultivated there and the area is closed to the public.
